Social Media Battle Grounds
I believe that the online landscapes that allow the flow of opinions and information affect the public opinion by the sheep mindset. Through the mass arguments and opinionated statements made by those some people are likely to agree with or follow, instead of using critical thinking to allow personal opinions to be formulated it is often that people just mindlessly agree. Without any research or observation done the person is likely to “follow” the others in a heard. So when the public opinion shifts so does theirs and so forth.
Additionally, there is a growing population of uninformed assumptions made through the sheep mindset. Because of this and the online freedom to project opinions, people will engage in online opinionated battles spewing the same information regurgitated out without further research being done into the situations. This will affect society, democracy, and interpersonal relationships due to lack of critical thinking for one’s self. Democracy is only democracy truly when it comes from the persons true informed opinion, not a heard of sheep mindlessly following the narrative given to them. Society will grow more dependent on strangers and idols to give them their beliefs and interpersonal relationships will fail.
One example can be influencers like Andrew Tate who young men look up to because of his riches and physique. They turn to idolizing him and take on his opinions, specifically misogynistic opinions in which you can find them on Twitter spaces, and reinforce his beliefs.
Ethical considerations being to use self reflection to ensure what you believe in and what you stand for either in regulations, rules, opinions, and or actions align with your moral beliefs in the fashion of being full informed.
